XP Service Pack 3 causes problems on AMD machines 5/14/08

I don't think this will affect many in your organizations but just a heads up for users with computers that have computers from HP with AMD chips. These computers have problems with Windows XP Service Pack 3. Do not install in until you are sure that it will not cause a problem with your computer. Those with computers based on Intel chips should not be affected. Those users who are part of the Ceniom Managed Services network have had the necessary adjustments made on their machines and need not be concerned.

Exciting Email Improvement:

We are presently migrating all our email users to our 2007 Microsoft Exchange System. We are currently migrating new employees and those current employees as opportunity allows. The exchange system will have many advantages to our current one, especially when all the users are migrated over. A few of those advantages are; the ability to access a detailed view of your email from any computer equal to your view in Outlook 2003; Increased speed and storage capacity; Automatic update of your inbox; And when all users are connected the ability to share documents and calendars.

Notes from Tech support:
The tech support team wants to help you. Please respect their time and your own by following these guidelines when calling the 800 number(800) 403-3204 x2) or emailling support@iemsupport.com:
1) Please be in front of the computer that you are having the problem with when you call.
It is nearly impossible to diagnose a problem with a computer without the detailed information available when you are right there with it.
2) Know the General type of problem you are experiencing. (connecting, email, logging in)
Do you have an Internet connection? Can you surf the web? Can you send/receive email? At What point in the login process do you receive the error? When first logging in with Citrix, when logging into FRED with your ES code?
3) ALWAYS LEAVE YOUR NAME AND PHONE NUMBER, when leaving a message via phone or email.
It takes extra time to look this information up each time.

General Notes:
The school has purchased the AVG Anti-Virus program to keep our users and network free of virus and other types of malware. It is your responsibility to make sure that your school-owned computer has this software installed for your own good and everybody that you send or receive email from. If you are unsure of what this is, ask your advisor or contact tech support.
The rumor that the Outlook program is going away is untrue. In the future the Outlook express program may not be supported, but there is no plan for Outlook to be replaced in the forseeable future.
Finally, if you have recently purchased a wonderful new computer, congratulations. And please, make sure that you also invest in your own training on this new operating system. It is beyond the scope of our technical staff to give basic training in how to use your computer at this time.
